Privacy notice

This is an English translation for convenience. The German version is the legally binding one, as this site is operated from Germany.

In short: there is no account and no database. Your route stays in your browser. Using the map sends requests to a few external services, which technically see your IP address.

What stays in your browser

Your map — stops, modes of travel, title and design — is stored in your browser's localStorage so it is still there next time. That data never leaves your device and we cannot see it. You can delete it at any time through your browser settings.

When you share a map with "copy link", the whole project sits compressed inside the link itself. Nothing is stored on a server for that either — whoever has the link has the map.

Server log files

Requesting this website is logged by the web server: IP address, time, the address requested, status code, bytes transferred, referrer and user agent. This processing is necessary for secure operation and relies on Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in operational security). Logs are deleted after 14 days at the latest.

External services the map uses

For the map to work, your browser calls these services directly, which necessarily discloses your IP address to them. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — without them there would be no map.

• OpenFreeMap — map tiles. openfreemap.org
• Photon (Komoot) — place search and reverse geocoding. photon.komoot.io
• Overpass API — campsite search. overpass-api.de
• OSRM — road routing. project-osrm.org

Place search additionally sends your search term to the geocoding service, and routing sends the coordinates of the stops involved. Only the data each function actually needs is transmitted.

Audience measurement

To see whether and how this site is used, it runs Umami on the same server as the site itself. No data is passed to third parties and none is processed outside the EU.

Recorded per request:

• the address requested and the referring page
• browser, operating system, device type and screen size
• the country, derived from the IP address
• individual events inside the tool — that an export was started, or a link copied. The contents of your map are not transmitted, only the kind of action.

No cookies are set and no identifier is stored on your device. To tell returning requests from new ones, Umami derives a hash from IP address, browser identification and a secret that rotates daily. It cannot be reversed and loses its association after a day. The IP address itself is not stored.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR: the legitimate interest in being able to judge and improve the operation of this site. Because no information is stored on or read from your device, no consent under § 25 TDDDG is required — which is why there is no cookie banner.

Payments

For buying a print-quality export we use Stripe. The data needed for the payment is sent directly to Stripe; we neither receive nor store payment details. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract). See Stripe's own privacy policy for details.

Cookies and advertising

This site sets no cookies, embeds no advertising networks and uses no service that follows you across other websites.

Your rights

You have the right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to complain to a supervisory authority. Since we store no personal data beyond the server log files, the scope of any such request is correspondingly small.
